The trail starts in Valnontey, a hamlet of Cogne, and winds through larch trees, streams, and mountain pastures. After about 2-3 hours of climbing (900 m elevation gain), you reach the refuge, surrounded by imposing peaks, including Grivola. It's easy to spot ibex, marmots, and chamois along the way: wildlife reigns supreme here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
From the refuge, a spectacular high route leads to Valsavarenche via Col Lauson (3,296 m), one of the highest and most panoramic passes in the region. The climb to the pass is challenging but rewarding with extraordinary views of the Gran Paradiso and the surrounding valleys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
